Stator Cover photos

Well, a bit disappointed really, still I have produced a serviceable item, but just not very pretty. I think too much gel coat initially, and the mold was not perfect - so I couldn't really expect a perfect piece - never mind you live and learn, and it will do to practice on - I will cut a piece out of this one to make way for the new carbs!

Hey Dave,

looks like too much resin to me. You want to be using the minimum amount of resin to wet the cloth. I would suggest for a small part like this to pr impregnate the cloth on a flat surface and a sheet of plastic, then squegee (credit card) and blot with paper towel. Then vacuum bag with peel ply - basically thin nylon cloth with more paper towel on the outside. This will remove excess resin. (Epoxy is the way to go, but more expensive.) For vacuum just use an old fridge compressor and an advance retard with a micro switch to turn it on and off like this.

Hope that helps, Charlie

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the comment - and yes way too much gel coat and resin on the fibre - will know for next time - I will look into the vacuum pump idea. Oliver's got some ideas for bits for his mountain bike, so we will get some practice!
